THE SHORT ANSWER

You can read the guide without an account. Google Analytics and Microsoft Clarity are optional and load only after you allow analytics. Advertising and embedded media are separate third-party services.

Hosting and technical requests

The website runs on Cloudflare. Requests necessarily include connection details such as IP address, requested URL, browser headers and time. Cloudflare processes these to deliver and protect the site. We do not provide user accounts, upload forms or a newsletter database.

Your analytics preference is stored locally in your browser under hw-analytics. It stays until you change it or clear your browser’s site data. No advertising or analytics preference is required to access the guide.

Optional audience measurement

If enabled for this website and you choose Allow analytics, Google Analytics 4 measures visits and interactions. Microsoft Clarity provides usage measurements, heatmaps and session replay. These services may process page URLs, browser/device details, approximate location and interaction data, and may use cookies.

Analytics do not load before consent. We disable Google advertising signals and advertising personalisation in our GA configuration and pass denied advertising consent to Clarity. Use Analytics preferences in the footer to decline or withdraw consent. Withdrawing reloads the page and stops new analytics collection from this site; it does not retroactively delete data already processed by a provider.

Read Google’s privacy policy and Microsoft’s privacy statement for provider practices and rights requests.

Advertisement areas

Content pages reserve space for Adsterra banner and rectangle advertisements. Once active, their scripts and creatives may contact Adsterra and advertising partners, use cookies or similar technologies and process technical request data. Our analytics preference controls Google Analytics and Clarity; it does not control Adsterra or browser-level advertising settings.

Ad tags execute on the page and may load content from third parties. Advertisements are labelled Advertisement and are separate from editorial links. We do not ask readers to click advertisements. See Adsterra’s privacy policy for its practices and available choices. You can use browser privacy settings to restrict third-party cookies and requests.

YouTube and outgoing links

Video players use YouTube’s privacy-enhanced embed domain. Loading a player still contacts YouTube, and playback can involve its cookies, account features and age restrictions. External links take you to services with their own privacy policies.
