THE SHORT ANSWER

Observe enemies before spending resources, keep inventory space for progression items and retain several manual saves. The box and the environment are part of your toolkit; not every threat asks you to empty a magazine.

Look before you commit

At a new room, identify an exit, available cover and any immediate enemy patrol. A few seconds of observation can reveal a route that avoids a resource-heavy fight. That is especially useful when you do not yet know whether the next area contains a save point or a boss.

The practical distinction is between a room you are exploring and a sequence you are escaping. Chase encounters reward movement. Exploration rewards checking drawers, cabinets and corners. Trying to search during a pursuit exposes you to danger without resolving the navigation task.

Treat carrying space as a resource

Early inventory space is limited. Before picking up a large optional object, check whether you still need room for a story item, healing supplies or the weapon you intend to use. Collecting everything immediately is not the same as being prepared.

At storage, choose a loadout for the next section. Carry the items that solve likely problems and store surplus equipment when you can retrieve it later. Capacity upgrades are worth inspecting rooms for, because they change how many decisions you can defer until the next safe stop.

Use stealth to preserve your strongest supplies

Published routes recommend stealth attacks where enemy positions allow them. Watch which direction an enemy faces, approach from a safe angle and respond to the actual prompt. Avoid assuming that a route is clear merely because it was clear in a video recorded on another difficulty.

The starting knife has a different role from ordinary breakable melee weapons. Preserve ammunition and durable equipment for moments when stealth is unavailable. Once detected, create enough space to reassess rather than repeatedly attempting the same failed approach while enemies are already alert.

Notice box interactions and environmental targets

The Genesis Configuration is a progression tool as well as a combat ability. Fire sources, movable blocks and highlighted enemy states may offer a solution that ordinary gunfire does not. Read the interaction prompt and aim at the target the game is presenting.

When a corridor seems blocked, inspect it at different heights. A block might need to move, a fire target might need to change state or a low gap might bypass the obvious doorway. The box abilities guide explains the main categories without revealing the ending.

Use safe stops deliberately

At Zora’s shop, reload, store excess equipment and review upgrades before leaving. A purchase is most useful when it supports a weapon you are actually carrying and using. Do not spend all your currency on an attractive upgrade and then discover that your immediate problem is healing or inventory space.

Completion runs have additional shop considerations. Check the current trophy reference for your platform and version before making irreversible purchasing decisions. Avoid treating a launch-day bug report as proof that a current build still behaves the same way.

Keep a save that can rescue the run

Rotate manual saves at meaningful boundaries: before a new area, before a major purchase and before a boss. Retaining one older save gives you a recovery point if an optional objective was missed or you used too many supplies.

Published completion guides report no chapter select or post-story free roam. That makes manual saves your practical route back to earlier areas. Read the save and missables checklist if you intend to collect beyond the main story, or begin with the opening walkthrough if you are stuck on the apartment loop.
